The Cane Corso

A Loyal Family Guardian

The Cane Corso (Pronounced Kah Nay Corso) is a relatively new breed to Canada, as it did not appear in North America until 1988. It is a serious dog breed for a person who is serious about having a dog as a companion and who can provide them with the firm and loving guidance they need to become a great dog.

Give this dog a job. They’re unwilling to just lay around all day and will find their own work to do if you don’t provide it, daily walks or runs will suffice. If you have a farm or ranch, they will help you with the livestock otherwise, get them involved in dog sports such as agility, dock diving, nose work, obedience, tracking, or protection sports.

The Corso is one of many Mastiff- type dogs, developed in Italy and said to descend from Roman war dogs. They are more lightly built then their cousin the Neapolitan mastiff, and were bred to hunt game, guard property and be an all-around farmhand. Their work included rounding up pigs and cattle and helping to drive them to market. This breed is known as the family guardian, a one family dog, and are amazing with their children.

We are proud to offer a limited number of spots from each litter for our “Advanced Puppy Program” at Rocky View Corsos. Puppies are approximately 3 months old when they go to their new homes. Have your puppy trained in socialization protocol specific to the breed including: city walks, country walks, a variety of animals, swimming (weather permitting), store field trips and more.

We got our very first Corso from Rocky View this summer. The entire process was exciting, fun, and educational. I wanted to give you a little update and touch base. We honestly could not be happier and are shocked at how easy Lynx is. She has amazing drive and literally just wants to please us. We have been working with her everyday separately and with Walker as well and she is picking things up SO fast, already knows her name! Luring, come, heel position, sit, slowly picking up down. She’s zooming up the stairs and just started going down them as well! Puts herself to bed, doesn’t make a peep in the kennel and sleeps through the night! Few accidents in the house but now that we have learned her routine and tells there has barely been any! You were right she is an alarm clock at 6am! We have been taking her on walks separately and taking her out to stores so she can get more exposure and be neutral to people and other dogs and she is doing so amazing! No pulling, just hanging out right beside us. I know I keep saying it but we are genuinely so grateful for how you’ve raised these puppies and are so excited to see what comes!

Very impressed with how social she is, she loved saying hi and playing with the kids, but once the initial excitement wore off she chose to lay in her bed or with us. She has gotten super driven over the last couple of days, I've been having a blast working with her. Super impressed with how content she has been, she is happy to come to work with us, happy to be in the truck, just happy to be involved in everything. She has the intensity, but a way better off switch and already more ability to read a situation. Her confidence in what she's being asked is outstanding too. Sarah and I just wanted to say thank you for all that you have done. Nyx is such an amazing dog. You guys have given her such a head start it's amazing. She goes into her kennel to take her naps, she's playful yet is super respectful of the kid and Christmas tree boundaries. She only complained twice last night to go pee, then went straight back to bed. We absolutely couldn't be happier. Definitely, well worth the wait and changing what we thought we wanted. Blown away by the quality, care, and love that go into these dogs. We recently got a Rhino and Gorda puppy and are beyond impressed with our girl. We brought our baby girl home, well cared for, crate trained, and honestly basically potty trained at 8 weeks old! On your puppy application you can request a colour, however there are no guarantees and our priority is matching personalities over looks. 

Our puppies come with a 2 year health guarantee, registration, deworming, first shots, Veterinarian health certificate, baggy of food to help your puppy transition to your food of choice, and a small toy and collar.

Yes, we require a $500 non-refundable deposit. This way we can get to know the clients and we can start the puppy matching process as soon as possible. The deposit is put towards the purchase price. 

Absolutely! The Cane Corso is known as the family guardian. The temperament of a Corso, or any dog for that matter, comes largely from genetics and early training. It is important to purchase a puppy that was bred for temperament if you are planning to have your puppy around children.

Yes, the Cane Corso is a breed that has natural instinct to be protective of their family. With proper training and socialization the Corso can keep their naturally easy-going character while learning the proper way to react when they smell or see something that is out of the ordinary or strange.
